Review of the YnM Weighted Blanket Great Sleep Therapy for People with Insomnia and Adhd and Stress

I have severe insomnia. It started when I had my first child in 1996, he is 22 years old and I still don't rest properly at night. I have the type of insomnia where I go to sleep easily but wake up two hours later and spend half the night trying to get back to sleep. I have tried everything. Recently I reviewed the acupressure spike mat which calms my anxiety and stress tremendously. It still has that crazy floating, I smoked a joint effect on me, but I was still having problems with waking up and not being able to get back to sleep.

I read about weighted blankets but the cost of some of them is really out of control. I even tried making one of my own. It was a no sew technique, that consisted of duct tape, rice and zip-lock bags. I got frustrated in the middle of making it, rushed through the process to finish and ended up with a lot of rice in my bed. It was nasty and not fun to clean up.

I found this blanket on Amazon. The price was reasonable. I ordered it and received it a few days later.

This blanket is seriously heavy. It looks like a duvet cover, but the material is a little scratchy so I threw it over a light cotton comforter.

This is me napping with my blanket.

Here are some things you should know about how this blanket works.

These types of blankets were originally created for people, specifically children with autism and ADHD. The weight of the blanket is meant to calm, and help the body release serotonin, the hormone that gives one a sense of well being that helps you sleep.

Its like getting a hug while you sleep. Nice. I thought that it was a lot to live up to though. The people who have this blanket love it so I had to try it. The blanket is meant to cover one person at time, it is not meant to cover a whole bed or to be used by two people at once.

You are supposed to get a blanket that is 10% of your body weight.I choose the twin, which is 15 pounds, I probably need a few more pounds due to how much I weigh, but the twin is working fine for me.

I used it the first night, went to bed at 10:30 pm and woke up at 2:30 am. Instead of feeling anxious I felt...drugged. I could not keep my eyes open, I guess my waking up time is so set that I I did it on auto pilot, but going back to sleep was easy and I drifted off a few minutes later to wake up at 6 am without an alarm clock.

My normal wake up time is 4:30 am. I have always been an riser, so waking up at 6 am is like waking up in the afternoon for me. But I think its sleep my body needed and for the first time in years I woke up feeling calm and energetic.

I thought, this wont happen a second night, but much to my surprise I have been consistently waking up an hour later, usually around 5:30 am, for the past two weeks. This is a perfect wake up time for me, like I said I am a morning person. I still wake up once during the night. But I have been able to go right back to sleep. I did not change my bed time routine, except for using the blanket, so I believe this is really due to using the blanket.

I live in South Florida, I thought the heaviness of the blanket would be problematic for me. I have not had an issue, though, I keep the central air on about 69 degrees at night. That is how I always have it during the summer. I have not felt more "hot" with the blanket.

I think my only concern with the blanket is that I wanted to put in a duvet so I could keep it on my bed and protect it from getting dirty. The blanket is has elastic bands sewn onto the sides to tie it to the inside of a duvet. I found that it is to heavy for flimsy duvet. So I throw over a light comforter and it is not to hot and appears to be working fine. Eventually I will get the cover that goes with it.

This blanket has exceeded my expectations. I am sleeping more deeply, waking up at a normal hour and this past weekend I slept "in" I was able to stay asleep until 7 am. A very big deal for me.

I would recommend this for anyone suffering from excessive stress, anxiety, or insomnia. I posted a blog on sleep products that were highly rated on Amazon. There are some amazing things out there, for insomniacs. I want to try out the weighted eye mask that I read was good for deeper sleep and helping to prevent puffy eyes. I will keep you posted when I get mine and let you know how it goes.
